Sting edge out the Beavers

In front of a crowd of more than 250 fans the Beavers wasted no time proving they came to play by taking the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. A failed P.A.T. attempt gave the Beavers a 6-0 lead less than a minute into the game. 

Both teams' defensive units caused problems and made if difficult for the opposing offense to move the ball in the first half. The Sting did manage to put one drive together, marched down the field and scored on a short run by #5 B. McClellan.  A successful PAT made the score 7-6, which stayed that way going into halftime.

The second half was a continuation of the first with both teams still struggling on offense. Midway through the fourth McClellan scored his second TD of the day on a 40+ yard run. The P.A.T. attempt was unsuccessful  bringing the score to 13-6.  The defensive battle continued and the score remained 13-6 until the final whistle.

Both team struggled to move the ball early in the game then a punt was returned 90 yards by # 5 Bryon McClellan to give the Sting a 7-0 lead. The Ravens responded quickly by marching down the field and scoring on a 60 yard pass to tie the game 7-7.

 

The Sting’s first drive in the second quarter ended on a 19 yard touchdown run by # 19 Kentrell Hurst. # 12 Nick Gran tossed a 32 yard touchdown pass to # 20 Ray Bonano to give the Sting a 21-7 lead at the half.

 

In the second half the Sting clicked on all cylinders. # 12 Gran hooked up once again with # 20 Bonano on a 44 yard touchdown pass. Gran’s third TD of the day came on a pass that tipped off of # 9 Lavon Green hands and grabbed by  # 1 Eric Robinson. The third quarter ended with the Sting leading the Ravens 35-7.

 

During the forth quarter the Sting kept the ball on the ground. A QB sneak from the 1 yard line by # 12 Gran resulted in a touchdown and made the score 42-7. # 19 Hurst took charge of fourth quarter by rushing for 40 of his 74 yards and two more touchdowns. The Sting defense capped off the game with a touchdown on an interception return from # 3 Brett Cook.

 

 

# 12 Gran ended the game with a total of147 passing yards and # 20 Bonano finished with 74 receiving yard.

 

# 41 Derek Marks went 9 for 9 on PAT’s

 

Defensively the Sting sacked the Ravens QB 3 times (#44 Reggie Robinson, # 55 De’Von Robinson, and # 78 Michael Morales) and forced 4 interceptions (# 7 James Clanton, # 3 Brett Cook, # 21 James Cook Jr, and # 15 Jamar McClellan).

The rain had no effect on # 12 Nick Gran as he hit 3 different receivers for touchdowns. # 1 Eric Robinson, # 20 Ray Bonano, and # 5 Bryon McClellan was on the receiving end of each of those tosses and combined for a total of 79 yards.  # 5 McClellan also added 2 rushing touchdowns on 6 carries for 56 yards. # 19 Kentrell Hurst also had 6 carries and rushed for his first touchdown on the year.

 

The Sting defense scored twice on interception returns from # 2 Lawrence Edwards and # 21 James Cook Jr. # 44 Reggie Robinson was the only Sting player to get a hand on the Indians QB for the only sack of the game.

 

# 41 Derek Marks went 8 for 8 on PAT’s but missed his first FG of the season.



 

First road game is a tough one.

The Rampage showed up ready to play and was the Sting's toughest challenge of the season this far. The score was 0-0 at the end of the 1st.

A QB sneak from the 2 yard line by # 12 Nick Gran gave the Sting a 7-0 lead at the half.

The Rampage was able to keep the Sting's defense on the field much of the 3rd and became the first opponent to score on the Sting this season ending the 3rd quarter with a 7-7 tie.

In the 4th with two of their quarterbacks out due to injury the Rampage struggled to get their offense going. A safety (sack by # 77 Will Henton) gave the Sting a 9-7 lead. # 5 Bryon McClellan added a 32 yard touchdown run and a two point conversion pass form #12 Gran to # 9 Lavon Green brought the score to 17-7. Penalties pushed the Rampage offense deep into their own territory which led to another safety (sack by # 24 Cliff Bourne) then the following kickoff was returned by # 20 Ray Bonano bringing the score to 25-7. (PAT was no good) A late game interception by # 5 McClellan was returned for the final score of the game.

 

The Rampage held the Sting offense to 27 passing yard leaving the Sting to run the ball 28 times for 152 yards. # 5 McClellan lead the way with 74 rushing yards.

 

The Rampage offense had their hands full all day with the Sting defense which totaled 8 sacks and 5 interceptions.

# 12 Nick Gran passes for 155 yard and 3 more touchdowns after throwing 4 week 1 vs the Fightin' Sprites.# 1 Eric Robinson caught 3 passes for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns, bringing his total to 4 on the year.  # 20 Ray Bonano grabbed his second of the season while # 2 Lawrence Edwards rushed for a TD.

# 41 Derek Marks remained perfect on the season by going 2 for 2 on FG's and 4 for 4 on PAT's

Defensively the Sting only got to the Wardogs QB once (sack by # 49 Dale Colprit) but forced 4 interceptions (# 25 Charlie Brown, # 7 James Clanton,  # 21 James Cook Jr. and  # 3 Brett Cook). On the season the defensive totals now consists of 5 sacks, 7 INT's and 0 point allowed.

 




Sting make the most of their NEFL debut.

When all was said and done, the Sting posted 500+ all purpose yards.

 

# 12 Nick Gran led the way by throwing for 215 yard and 4 touchdowns. On the receiving end # 1 Eric Robinson pulled in 2 touchdowns and finished the day with 90 yards. # 20 Ray Bonano (74 yards) and # 5 Bryon McClellan also hooked up with Gran to each reach the end zone as well.

 

The Sting punched 2 touchdowns in on the ground. The first came from McClellan who also had 100+ return yards and # 34 Derrik Reels accounted for the other score. Seven different backs were used to carry the ball 30 times for 174 yard.

 

The Sting defense forced 4 turnovers. 3 came on interceptions from each of the following # 18 Josh Worthington, # 21 James Cook Jr and # 3 Brett Cook. The sting also managed to sack the Sprites QB four times.  # 44 Reggie Robinson was able to get to him twice while # 55 De’Von Robinson and # 24 Cliff Bourne also got to the QB once.

 

# 41 Derek Marks was perfect on the day going 5 for 5 on PAT’s and 1 for 1 on FG’s.
